Mary
Baker Eddy is the discoverer and founder of Christian Science,
and author of its foundation text, Science
and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Throughout her
youth and early adulthood, Mary Baker Eddy faced poor health and
financial and emotional hardship. She overcame these challenges
to become one of the most prominent individuals of her day. Toward
the end of her life, Human Life magazine described her
as "the most famous, interesting and powerful woman in America,
if not in the world today."
She continues to be regarded
as one of history's more remarkable figures. Today, her primary
work, Science and Health, which has sold over 10 million
copies to date, engages readers around the world.
Mrs. Eddy was President and
founder of a teaching college, the Massachusetts Metaphysical
College, which prepared teachers of Christian Science. She also
founded a publishing house whose products include numerous books,
weekly and monthly magazines, a foreign language magazine, and
a Bible daily self-study guide. The Christian
Science Monitor, founded by Mary Baker Eddy, is a Pulitzer
Prize-winning newspaper.
